7 Days Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari.

 7 day Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari visits two primate parks in Rwanda. Volcanoes national park is home to endangered mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, Volcanoes, and the grave of Dian Fossey. Nyungwe forest national park is home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees and monkeys. Detailed Safari Itinerary.

 Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes national park.

  •  A representative from Munda Africa Adventure will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali international airport on the first day of your 7 day Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari. After that, you’ll go on a Kigali city tour to see places like Kimironko market, Kigali genocide memorial sites, and many other interesting places in the beautiful city of Kigali. After the city tour, you’ll have lunch in Kigali and then drive for two to three hours to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri, upon your arrival you check into your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park.

  • On day 2 of a 7 day Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari, wake up feeling good and ready for breakfast as early as possible. Then, pack everything you think you’ll need for gorilla trekking, together with packed lunch and meet your safari driver to be taken to meet the other trekkers for a pre-gorilla trekking briefing, where you’ll learn what you should and shouldn’t do around gorillas at 8:00 a.m., go with the local guides and the armed ranger into the wild to look for a family of gorillas that has been used to people and is comfortable with hiking. It will take you anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours to find the gorilla family. Once you do, you’ll have an hour to watch the gorillas in their natural habitats without disturbing them. After that, you’ll hike back to the starting point to meet your safari driver and be driven back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Before going to the lodge, you can
  • do an optional activity before the sun goes down in the evening, you can go to the twin lakes of Burela and Ruhondo or the Ibyiwacu cultural town.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and Visit the twin lakes of Burela and Ruhondo.

  • On the third day of the 7 day Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari, after breakfast, meet your safari guide and you’ll go back to the meeting point with a bottle of water and some snacks. Don’t forget to wear the best trekking gear, like long-sleeved clothing, sun glasses, insect repellent, a hat, and garden gloves. Then, you’ll start trekking the most cheerful and beautiful primates that live in Volcanoes National Park. Depending on how far a group of golden monkeys has moved, trekking with them can take anywhere from two to five hours. During the trek, you are likely to see other animals in the wild. When you do, you can spend up to an hour taking pictures and getting close to these cute animals before heading back to the lodge for lunch. Later in the evening, you will go on a nature walk tour to the twin lakes of Burela and Ruhondo, where you will be amazed by the number of birds and mammals that come to the lakes to drink. After exploring the lakes, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay waiting to explore the grave of Dian Fossey the next day.

Day 4: Hike Dian Fossey’s tomb and transfer to Gisenyi.

  • After breakfast on day 4 of 7 days Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari, meet your safari driver to be taken to the park offices for a briefing about Dian Fossey, her life and her death. Hire a porter to help you take your backpack, and then start climbing Mount Karisimbi. The grave of Dian Fossey is between Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke at the Karisoke research center. So you will walk along Mount Karisimbi until you reach the Karisoke study Centre. While you’re at her study center, you can visit her grave, which is next to the grave of her favorite gorilla, Decimal, who was also killed by poachers. After you’ve spent some time at Dian Fossey’s grave, you’ll go back to the lodge, relax, eat lunch and check out. You’ll then be taken to Gisenyi, where you’ll spend the evening on the shores of Lake Kivu, taking in the fresh air and looking at the beautiful plants. Later in the evening, you’ll head to your booked lodge in Gisenyi for dinner and overnight stay before taking a boat to Nyungwe Forest National Park the next day.

Day 5: Water transfer to Nyungwe forest national park.

  •  After a relaxing breakfast at your lodge on the fifth day of your 7days Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari, you’ll check out and go on a Gisenyi city tour, where you’ll see places like genocide memorial sites, markets, shops and more. After you’ve seen Gisenyi, you’ll take a boat cruise along the beautiful Lake Kivu, where you can see a lot of aquatic species and volcanoes in the nearby national park. Then, you’ll go to Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is on the other side of Lake Kivu and is home to 13 species of primates. When you get to the lake’s edge, you’ll have lunch and then drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park to check in, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park.

  • On day 6 of the 7 day Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari, you will wake up early for breakfast and then be driven to the park offices for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest national park. After getting the briefing, you will go on a half-day trip into the jungles to look for chimpanzees that are used to people. When you find them, you have an hour to take pictures and get close to them. Then you trek back to meet your safari driver, who will take you back to the lodge for lunch and a break before you go on a canopy walk in Nyungwe forest, which is known to be one of the best in all of East Africa. The canopy walk is 150 m long, and it gives you a lot of chances to see different kinds of plants and animals.

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali for departures.

  • On day 7 of the 7 day Rwanda primates and Dian Fossey hiking safari, you’ll have breakfast, check out and start driving from Nyungwe Forest National Park back to Kigali, stopping for lunch along the way. When you get to Kigali, you’ll be taken to your hotel or the airport if you’re leaving on a flight.
