Embark on an exhilarating 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, exploring four diverse national parks. Begin at Kibale Forest National Park, where you'll spend an hour with endangered chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park to encounter a variety of wildlife, including the "Big Four" (elephants, buffaloes, lions, and leopards), as well as Uganda kob, waterbucks, hippos, warthogs, bushbucks, Nile crocodiles, and more. The safari also includes a visit to Lake Bunyonyi, the second-deepest lake in East Africa, followed by a trek to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a memorable interaction with mountain gorillas in their natural environment.

Itinerary

On the first day of the 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, our driver-guide will meet you at your location and provide a brief overview of the safari before departing for Kibale Forest National Park. The drive to Kibale takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, with a lunch stop in Fort Portal. Along the way, you'll enjoy scenic views of tea and banana plantations, crater lakes, and the Rwenzori mountain range. Upon arrival at the park, you'll check into your lodge, relax, and enjoy dinner before an overnight stay.

On the second day of your 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, you'll start with an early breakfast before your driver-guide takes you to the park headquarters for a briefing on the rules and regulations for chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing, you'll be divided into groups of six and paired with an experienced park ranger who knows the best routes for tracking chimpanzees.

The trek, which can last between 30 minutes to 4 hours, offers opportunities to spot various bird species, monkeys, and plant life. Once the chimpanzees are located, you'll have one hour to observe them in their natural habitat, watching their daily activities such as feeding, playing, and resting, while capturing photos and videos of these remarkable moments.

After your hour with the chimpanzees, you'll return to the starting point and meet your driver-guide, who will then take you back to the lodge for lunch.
You will take a fascinating nature walk in Bigodi Swamp after lunch where you can see a variety of primate species, including L’Hoest’s monkeys, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, and olive baboons, as well as mammals like wild pigs, antelopes, and mongooses and birds like the great blue turaco, shoebill stork and many others.

On the third day of your 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, you'll start with an early breakfast before checking out of the lodge and meeting your driver-guide. You'll then embark on a scenic drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s second-largest national park.

Upon arrival, check into your lodge and enjoy lunch. Afterward, you can relax or opt for an afternoon game drive to spot wildlife such as buffalo, elephants, warthogs, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, and bushbucks, as well as a variety of bird species. After the game drive, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

On the fourth day of your 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, your driver-guide will pick you up from the lodge after an early breakfast and take you on an exciting game drive through the Kasenyi Plains. Here, you'll have the chance to see elephants, waterbucks, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, warthogs, and bushbucks, as well as predators like lions and leopards. You'll also spot a variety of bird species, including cattle egrets, raptors, Hadada ibis, Pied crows, and black kites. After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, embark on a stunning boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. The 2 to 3-hour cruise offers views of hippos and Nile crocodiles in the water, as well as elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, and warthogs along the shoreline. You'll also see numerous waterbirds, including cormorants, hornbills, kingfishers, hamerkops, Egyptian geese, pelicans, and fish eagles. After the boat cruise, return to the lodge for a relaxing evening, dinner, and an overnight stay.

On the fifth day of your 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, check out of the lodge after an early breakfast and meet your driver-guide for the trip to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. En route, you'll pass through the Ishasha sector, where you may spot tree-climbing lions lounging on tree branches.

Continue your journey with a stop at Kitagata Hot Springs, where you can experience the therapeutic natural hot springs. After lunch, proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, enjoying the breathtaking landscape along the way. Upon arrival, check into your lodge for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.

On the sixth day of your 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, you'll start early with breakfast and meet your driver-guide. You'll then head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines. After the briefing, you'll be divided into groups of eight and assigned a gorilla family to track with the assistance of a knowledgeable park guide.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas' location as they move in search of food. Once you locate the mountain gorillas, you'll have one hour to observe them in their natural habitat, watching their behaviors, feeding, and interactions, and capturing photos and videos of these incredible moments. Afterward, you'll return to the starting point, where you'll receive a certificate of participation.

Later, you'll meet your driver-guide and return to the lodge for an evening of relaxation. You may take a walk around the lodge to spot various bird species before enjoying dinner and an overnight stay.

On the seventh day of your 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, you'll start with a hearty breakfast before checking out of the lodge. Your driver-guide will then take you to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, embark on a fascinating boat cruise around Lake Bunyonyi, where you'll have the opportunity to explore several of its 29 islands, take in the scenic countryside, and admire terraced farmlands. You'll also have the chance to observe various bird species. After the boat cruise, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

On the final day of your 8-day Uganda Primates Safari, you'll start with a leisurely breakfast before checking out of the lodge. Your driver-guide will then begin the journey back to Kampala.

Along the way, you'll stop for lunch at the Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara. Afterward, continue your trip with a stop in Kayabwe for an Equator experience, where you can take photos and shop for souvenirs.

From the Equator, you'll proceed to Kampala, arriving in the evening. Your driver-guide will either take you to Entebbe International Airport for your flight home or drop you off at another convenient location in Kampala.
