Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking

Chimpanzees are human beings’ nearest relatives, even more so than gorillas, with whom we share 98% of our DNA. Chimpanzees are found in 21 African countries, but Uganda is the best site in the world for chimpanzee trekking, with the highest success rates. Chimpanzees can be observed in the Kibale Forest National Park, the Kalinzu Forest Reserve, the Kyambura Gorge, the Bugoma Forest, and the Budongo Forest in Uganda

Kibale Forest

Meet our closest relatives. Uganda is one of the best locations to observe primates. When most people consider Uganda, they imagine going on a gorilla safari rather than chimpanzee trekking. However, chimpanzee trekking should not be neglected. Uganda’s chimpanzees are one of the greatest animal encounters in Africa.

The finest chimpanzee trekking in Africa can be found in the Kibale Forest National Park, which is home to numerous chimpanzee families as well as excellent, well-maintained

jungle walking trails. There are also numerous red colobus, red-tailed guenon, white-nosed monkey, mangabey, blue monkey, L’Hoest’s monkey, black and white colobus monkey, baboons, and bush infants. At 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. daily, visitors to Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park can go chimpanzee trekking. You and your Il Julius Ulus DI L 1b will be used. When you encounter a chimpanzee, you will have one hour to observe it. HIUI vvuy will inform you of the local flora and fauna and point out chimpanzee presence indicators. There is no typical day here; occasionally, you will walk between three and five hours in search of chimpanzees.

Kyambura Gorge

Kyambura Gorge is the only location in Queen Elizabeth National Park where habituated chimpanzees and other primates may be observed.

Uganda’s Kyambura Gorge Forest, which was formed by the ancient movement of tectonic plates, is home to chimpanzees, hippos, primates, elephants, and numerous species of birds. The Kyambura Gorge, also known as the Valley of Apes, is one of the most well-known locations for chimpanzee trekking. It is located within Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most prominent parks.

In Kyambura, chimpanzee trekking begins at 8:00 a.m., and you can expect to be led into the dense forest by an experienced guide in search of our close relatives. We guarantee that the vistas from the Kyambura viewpoint will be among the most breathtaking in all of Africa.

Despite the abundance of species, chimpanzee trekking is the primary attraction in Kyambura Gorge, but the likelihood of seeing them is only about 80%, compared to 95% in Kibale park. A typical trekking excursion in this region consists of a two- to three-hour hike through dense vegetation and river crossings. Expect to become coated in mud. Any excursion of Queen Elizabeth National Park, whose Ishasha sector is home to tree-climbing lions, can include chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge.

Budongo Forest in Murchison Falls National park

Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda’s Budongo forest; the forest is located on the southern border of Uganda’s premier protected area, Murchison Falls National Park. The Forest in Budongo section of MFNP in Uganda attracts intrepid travelers who wish to go chimpanzee trekking.

Visitors may explore this area on foot while searching for tame chimpanzees, and once they are located, they can spend an hour with them in their natural habitat.

Several habituated chimpanzee groups inhabit the Kaniyo Pabidi section of the forest, which is used for both tourism and conservation.

The chimpanzees and other monkeys eat a diversity of fruits found in the forest’s trees and savanna. In addition, there are numerous mahogany and ironwood trees, the optimal combination for chimpanzee nests.

Kalinzu Forest Reserve

he primary attraction of the Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve is its excellent chimpanzee trekking opportunities. The Forest is home to one of the largest chimpanzee communities in Uganda. In addition to being less expensive here (80USD) than in Kibale Forest (where a permit costs $200), many people, including us at Munda Africa, consider it to be the second-best location for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda. Approximately 50 of the park’s 320 native chimpanzees have been trained for tourism and conservation.

Chimpanzee trekking in the Kalinzu Forest Reserve provides the opportunity to observe a variety of other forest inhabitants, including birds such as Great blue turacos and primates such as baboons and blue monkeys.

Here, Ugandan park rangers use radio to discuss where chimpanzees were spotted or slept the previous night. Once you have located them, you will observe the chimpanzees going about their daily activities. A certain level of fitness is required to keep up with the chimpanzees’ swift movements and be able to capture some beautiful shots because they are highly vocal and active.
