     Murchison Falls National Park.

Located in Northwestern Uganda (Masindi District), Murchison falls national park is the most extensive conservation area in Uganda. The park, which has a total size of more than 3,800 km2, is named for one of its main features, the Murchison Falls. The Murchison Falls are created where the Nile River flows through a small canyon and then drops 42 metres with a powerful roar. The park is not what it once was due to rampant poaching and historical insecurity in the nation. But because of more recent conservation initiatives, the park has rebounded.

Though the park is brimming with animals, the waterfall is undoubtedly the main draw. Queen Elizabeth national park in Uganda encompasses 2,056 sq. km and is located near the border with the DR Congo. Known for the Uganda Kobs, buffaloes and the tree-climbing lions in Ishasha, it is the most visited park in Uganda.          THE TREE CLIMBING LIONS 

     Kidepo Valley National Park.

Encompassing around 1,440 km2, this magnificent park is situated in the secluded northeastern region of Uganda.      Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Mgahinga is located in the southwestern part of Uganda and famous for gorilla tourism. A visit to the park’s lone habituated mountain gorilla family is a part of gorilla trekking in Mgahinga. Golden monkeys are unique to Mgahinga, Uganda. To observe further groups of golden monkeys, one would have to travel to Rwanda. Monkeys and gorillas are not the only animals in the park. The park is home to jackals, buffalo, leopards, woodland elephants, and several antelope species.      Kibale Forest National Park.

     Lake Mburo National Park.

Lake Mburo is Uganda’s smallest but most accessible park from Kampala. There are twelve bodies of water in the park, the principal one being Lake Mburo. Zebras can be seen at Uganda’s Lake Mburo National Park. The park is a birders paradise with over 350 species that congregate at the lake and its swampy shores. The absence of elephants in the park is advantageous to the vast forests. The Savannah grass of the park is home to antelopes, buffaloes, jackals, leopards, and hyenas. The greatest time to see animals on a safari is during the dry season when they congregate at Lake Mburo to drink water.      Mount Elgon National Park.

The park is situated in Mbale district in the Eastern part of the country and lies on the border between Uganda and Kenya. The main draw of the park is Mount Elgon. Standing at approximately 42 km2, the mountain is a caldera of an extinct volcano.  Hikers love the Wagagai peak and the hot springs and other elements that add so much allure to Mount Elgon National Park.  There are natural forests, shrubs, waterfalls, caverns, gorges, and canyons all across the mountain slopes. Numerous bird species and primates, including Colobus, Blue, and Vegetable monkeys, can be found in the park. Visiting this park should be a part of any Ugandan wildlife safari you will not regret.

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

RHINO TRACKING 

On the route to the Murchison Falls National Park, there is a rhino sanctuary called Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The sanctuary’s goal is to save the nation’s rhino population and eventually replenish the bigger parks. In some of Uganda’s parks, rhinoceros have fallen victim to poaching for their precious horns.
